PLEASE ATTEND THE DECEMBER 19 TOWN BOARD MEETING @ 7:00pm SAVE THE RIDGE FROM: Tuytenbridge Solar Farm, Proposed 298 Luxury Housing Units Behind Adams & Hotel Across from Adams

There are currently three proposals working their way through our town Planning Board and Town Board. They are 1. Site Plan extension for a 100-room hotel across from Adams Fairacre Farms on 9W (it would be next to the railroad tracks between the Optum Medical Building and Tractor Supply). It was approved years ago, and they are now asking for a one year extension on their site plans. 2. Whitestone Development Partners has proposed a 298-Unit Multi-Family Housing Development above Adams. These will be luxury homes, not workforce, or lower income housing units. Plus, the 1890’s white neo-classical mansion on the hill is landmark-worthy but is slated to be demolished in this plan. It was the former home of two former Kingston mayors and one NY State senator and was the former Wolf Rock Hall Hotel in the early 19th century – a respite for travelers through the region. 3. Lightstar Renewables is proposing a solar farm just north of Adams, on that same ridge. They plan to clear cut 24 acres of forest to build this solar farm; a project that will threaten endangered species and wildlife (eagles nests nearby), compromise wetlands and also contains verified arrowheads – which may indicate other archeological finds. See the map below
If all of these projects get approved, the ridge behind Adams will be destroyed. If the Town adds 298 housing units and a 100 room hotel, all ingressing and egressing at the traffic light by Adams, can you imagine the traffic snarls we will have to endure? And, cutting down trees while increasing traffic is exactly the opposite of what we should be doing! We expect to see on the agenda for the Town Board meeting on Thursday, December 19th (the pre-meeting begins at 6:30p, the official meeting at 7pm) a resolution to refer the plans for the solar farm to the County Planners, and a vote on the one-year site plan extension for the hotel. We also expect them to set a public hearing date in January for the solar project. Please attend the meeting at Town Hall (1Town Hall Drive in Lake Katrine) and voice your concerns for these projects. We need to let the board know that segmenting these three projects is not in our best interest. Meaning we want them to look at them as a whole, not as individual projects. And, they should not grant the one-year extension to the hotel at this time, so to vote no on the resolution. Read the recent Daily Freeman article here.
