New Town of Ulster Comprehensive Plan Underway

If you haven’t noticed, our Town’s Comprehensive plan dates back to 2007 – that’s 18 year’s old. We’ve been asking our Town Board for many years to commit to updating it and bringing it current with today’s needs and realities.

Our “Protect the Ridge” campaign has had some great residual effects. Not only did it inspire the Ulster County Planning Board to recommend a moratorium on solar farms (since there is no mention of solar in the plan), but it finally pressured our Town Board and Planning Board to take our requests seriously.

At the last Town Board Meeting on February 20th, a resolution was passed to hire a new town planner, Max Stach, AICP, of the firm Nelson, Pope & Voorhis, LLC, who would also serve as a consultant on a new comprehensive plan.

Councilman Clayton Van Kleeck has been tasked with heading up a committee. In addition, we have identified a potential grant to help the Town cover the cost of the update.

For now, a group of Town of Ulster citizen volunteers is combing through the 100+ page plan to make recommendations and to be ready to participate in the process.
